FAQ

What is a psychiatric nurse practitioner?

A psychiatric nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced academic and clinical experience, which enables him or her to perform physical and psychological assessments, makes diagnoses, conduct therapy, and prescribe medications for individuals with a psychiatric disorder.

A psychiatric nurse practitioner is not a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a trained physician who has completed medical school and residency in psychiatry. If you prefer to work with a psychiatrist, or if a referral to a psychiatrist is appropriate for a complex problem, I will provide you with referral information and directly assist you with the referral process.

How are payments collected?

You will be expected to pay for each session at the time services are rendered. You can pay with a credit card via the link on this website.

Will these appointments be covered by insurance?

At this time, I am not contracted with any insurance company. This means that I am an "out-of-network" provider and I do not bill any insurance company or third party payer directly. If you plan to use your insurance benefits, you will be provided with a standard invoice that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Many insurance companies provide substantial reimbursement of mental health services by an out-of-network provider. Please note, payment in full is due at the time of visit.

If you would like support submitting claims, you can use Better, an app designed to submit out-of-network health claims on your behalf.

What is the procedure to cancel an appointment?

You must provide a minimum of one business day (24 hours) notice if you wish to cancel a scheduled appointment or you will be charged a $50 late cancellation fee. Business days are considered weekdays (Monday through Friday) and excludes holidays. Please note that insurance companies often do not reimburse for missed appointments.

How do I get my medication refilled?

Prescriptions will be written with enough medication to last until your next appointment. It is expected that you will not need telephone prescription refills. Urgent refill requests may take 48 hours to process. Early refill telephone requests for controlled substances will not be honored.
